My ideal D&D game lasts about 4 hours вЂ¦ or enough time to explore and appreciate about a half of the castle, in my experience. ItвЂ™s too big for a one-shot game, especially if your players really want to explore the castle and soak in all the details. In the past, IвЂ™ve struggled to run Ravenloft in a single game session. To that end, I created some rules and limitations that turn this exploration of Castle Ravenloft into a deadly race against the clock. For most groups, the maximum amount of time they can commit to playing D&D is about 4 hours. Unless you have friends who could play D&D from dawn to dusk, you will most likely need to impose a concrete and - if weвЂ™re being honest with ourselves - arbitrary time limit upon the adventure. This is perhaps the most luxurious optional item, but boy is it fun. If you want your game to be easy to pick up and play, you might want to create enough pregenerated characters for your whole group, since time is of the essence for this dungeon delve. IвЂ™ll include the changes and optional rules I use to run Ravenloft as a one-shot adventure, but feel free to mix and match these rules to suit your table. You will have to make a few changes in order for the characters to fight Strahd before the night ends or people get exhausted. Ravenloft is a large place, and exploring it thoroughly isnвЂ™t really possible in a single sitting. This means that, instead of preparing all of Curse of Strahd, you will only need to prepare Fortunes of RavenloftВ from chapter 1 and Castle Ravenloft from chapter 4 of the adventure. Your goal is to create a scenario in which itвЂ™s possible for the heroes to kill Strahd von Zarovich in a single session of play. If you havenвЂ™t ever had a D&D Halloween mega-party and battled your way through the halls of Castle Ravenloft with the sole objective of destroying Count Strahd von Zarovich, then you need to wrangle your friends and try it!

The castle was consecrated of its evil powers and teleported back to the material plane. Much later, Outhouse returned to Barovia with a new power. Carlos and Mordenkainen were able to recover Argynvost's skull and return it to its home. The Fangs acted quickly, driving a stake into his heart, ending his reign forever.ДЄfter defeating the vampire, the Fangs had a run of the place, looting if for all it was worth. The party followed him back down to his destroyed coffin, where he rematerialized, stunned. As Swirvathan unleashed a mighty Eldritch Blast, the vampire evaporated into mist. They engaged in epic battle with the vampire, using the artifacts to bring him to his knees. Using Vladimir's revenant powers, the party was able to quickly find Strahd in his study. Knowing the nature of vampires, the party destroyed his resting place and advanced onwards. While in the catacombs, the party was able to find Strahd's coffin.

Joining the Fangs and rounding out the Barovian Liberation Squad was Rictavio, Izek, and Vladimir. The Fangs were able to tunnel below the ravine into the castle's catacombs using an earth elemental under the control of Avich. The army was left under the supervision of Mordenkainen while the Fangs advanced on the castle. The people of Barovia helped to man the trebuchets and do battle with Strahd's army of the undead. In the Siege of Ravenloft, the Fangs were able to gather the forces of Barovia to march upon the castle. The castle proper included a cathedral, study, teleportation center, and various other chambers.

Beneath the castle was a vast network of catacombs, home to important figures of Barovia's past. Strahd ruled over Barovia for hundreds of years until the arrival of the Fangs.Д¬astle Ravenloft stood on a large pillar of stone overlooking a vast ravine. The Knights of Argynvostholt tried to combat Strahd and march on his castle, but were soundly defeated. When Strahd rose as a vampire, he overtook Castle Ravenloft, establishing his dominion over Barovia. Castle Ravenloft was the ancestral home of the von Zarovich family.
